Naples Italy Travel Guide
The Italian port city of Naples might be knee-high in trash and suffer its share of bloody Mafia wars. But there`s real vibrancy, and even a little beauty, in all that chaos. Here, a peaceful Sunday morning on the seafront at via Caracciolo, along the Gulf of Naples.
Voila! The reason you will visit La Notizia.
For a truly unforgettable pizza, take the funicular to the historic Vomero hills, and then a short cab ride to Pizzeria La Notizia. The crowds don`t come for the modest décor or the classic wood-burning oven; they come for the pizza, which is crisp, light and a perfect blend of sauce and cheese.
The secret of the pizza at La Notizia: "We do not use a lot of ingredients, but the few we use are of the highest quality," said the owner Enzo Coccia. Another secret, which explains why the tiny pizzeria is closed for lunch: the dough rises for 10 hours.
Pompeii is certainly worth a visit, but to really get a feel for what this lost city looked like, go to the Museo Archeologico Nazionale. A gigantic replica of this once-glorious city brings the buried civilization to life, along with a trove of artifacts. Here, a frieze taken from Pompeii is on display at the Museum.
For some of the freshest seafood in town, reserve a table at Dora. Espresso may not have been invented in Naples, but the city takes its caffeine very seriously.
